75 Years of Hand Crafting Wooden Oars, Mast and Spars
Collars have been in the business of providing rowers and sailors with specialist equipment for over 75 years. From our beginnings in a Thameside boathouse in 1930's Oxford, making sculls for the colleges, to our present involvement with large international yacht projects, the name Collars speaks of quality and tradition. Today, yacht spars and wooden oars account for the majority of our business, and we still stand by traditional manufacturing methods passed down through three generations of time served craftsman. We source and select our timber very carefully, as part of the skill of working with wood is choosing the most suitable materials for the job in hand.
All wooden oars, mast and spars are made in best quality North American Sitka Spruce or Douglas Fir specially imported after careful inspection, and hand-finished by experts of many years' standing. Over the years our customers have ranged from the owners of small dinghies teaching their children the virtues of sailing to large yacht-owning consortiums restoring ocean going thoroughbreds that can compete once again on the world stage.
