International 6-Metre - Silène III
Published: Monday 10th November 2008
Collars are well underway in manufacturing a new mast, boom and spinnaker poles for the classic 6 meter yacht ‘Silene III.
Designed by Tore E Holm and built in Sweden in 1950, she spent much of her early life successfully competing on Lake Geneva, racing in Mediterranean, as well as back in home waters of Sweden. Based now in Helsinki, Finland, she will be put back to her original designed wooden spars in time for next season.
The spars are all being manufactured in the finest quality Oregon Pine that has been specially brought in by Stones Boatyard based in Salcombe. The timber was selected in person whilst on the ground in America, and chosen because of the lengths, tightness of grain and specific density. With the center of gravity and final weight being of up most importance on a 6Meter, Ed Burnett will be designing the fittings and mast hardware to suit the spar once all parameters are known.
