Ierne picks up Restoration of the Year award

Collars are delighted to announce that the Classic Boat Restoration Award for 2008 has gone to the Fife 8-Metre Ierne.
Editor Dan Houston awarded and
presented it to her proud owner Huw Jones on the Classic Boat stand
on the first day of the London Boat Show.
Ierne originally was built for an Irish Colonel, who gave her the distinctive Irish name, after which she found her way into the hands of the Norwegian Olympic Team who she carried to the gold medal in the 1920 Antwerp Games.
Laid up in Portugal 85 years on, she caught Hew Jones' eye and without a second thought she was shipped back to England, where she underwent a full restoration by Joe Irving of Draughtsman Racing Yachts in Barton-on-Humber . With the drive and enthusiasm needed, Hew set about gathering all the original drawings keen to sail her once again under her revolutionary Marconi rig.
Having worked with Collars in the past on the Yorkshire One Designs spars, Hew commissioned Collars to supply a complete new rig, re-drawn by the Navel Architect Theo Rye, from all the original data. All the spars were manufactured in best quality Sitka Spruce and supplied fully fitted ready for rigging by Peter Martin of Martins Rigging.
This year she took part in the Fife Classics as well as the BCYC Regatta, turning heads on every occasion. To see this classic yacht under full sail view the like below:
